Getting started download- the brief details you need to read From years of experience, I put together what works when it comes to raising Purple Martins. I have used my own experiences, advice from other landlords (tried many things, some worked and many didn't work) to provide you with as much detail without burdening you with "different opinions" which may bog you down.
This is a must have to attract Martins. If you have any doubt about attracting Purple Martins to your Martin house you must get the Purple Martin Dawnsong CD. If you have seen Martins in your area you are sure to attract them to your house by playing the Dawnsong. Use with Martin decoys and you won't believe your eyes when the Martins show up.! All you have to do is set up a boom box or loud speakers near your Martin house and play the Dawnsong as loud as your neighbors can stand it and the Martins will come. The Dawnsong recording has helped thousands of folks become Martin Landlords. Playing this recording for one or two hours before dawn is best, but it can also be played anytime during the day. Use it to lure the Martins to your house during the two- to four- month period when migrating Martins are arriving. Also available on tape (see related items below). The CD is 74 minutes in length and comes with a 16-page instructional booklet packed inside the case. Recordings produced at the Library of Natural Sounds of the Cornell Laboratory of Ornithology.
Same as above.
Great help when starting a new colony. They look so real Hawks will attack them, could save your Martins. Set a few up on your T-14 perch or roof peak and watch the real Martins check them out. Combine the decoys with the portable caller, Dawnsong CD or cassette tape and you will increase your chances significantly when trying to attract Martins to your new site. Blow molded male.
Great For Attracting Martins To Your New House. Has both the Purple Martin Dawnsong and Daytime Chatter. Use it with a few decoys and you greatly improve your chances for attracting Martins to your new colony. No wires or tapes to fuss with, completely portable, saves you the time and trouble of setting up a boom box to play CD's or cassettes. Takes four AA batteries (included) that last from 15 to 20 hours in high volume, but even longer in lower volume. Weighs less than 1.5 pounds. Has four sounds stored in a hundred year memory, the Dawn Song and Chatter plus, rabbit and rodent distress. Made in USA.
Aluminum T-14 Martin house pole Landlords are loving it! Stands 16' high. Made of 3 inch square high tensile aluminum and includes a ground socket. If you are building a new T-14 house by kit or from the plans or purchasing it complete, you will need a "pole" to mount it on. This is the easiest, most durable and trouble free pole you can use other than the wooden pole you build.
Lighten your house by 10 lbs versus the old wooden nest tray by using our new disposable trays- Save more trees! Made from cardboard that will last several years if you wish. Throw them away if you don't want to clean them! These trays slip inside your T-14 Martin House and make it so nice to give the proper care to your martins. It also helps the martins because they don't need to bring in as much nesting material. Individual removable trays come in handy when doing your weekly nest checks. Keeps fledglings much more manageable!
Another way to deal with those pesky sparrows and starlings. This all steel insert trap slips right inside the compartment and triggers when a bird enters. Works for both off centered and starling resistant holes. Trap those unwanted sparrows and starlings right in the nest box they're trying to take over.
Experienced landlords agree that adding gourds to the bottom of a T-14 condo-style house enhances occupancy. Use one bracket, four bolts and two pins to add two gourds, all made from rust free stainless steel.
T-14 Martin House Wood Pole "mounting kit" You will need some way to raise and lower your Martin house and this wood pole "mounting kit" is custom designed for the T-14 house. Comes standard or with an automatic brake for maximum safety.
Use this up-grade kit to mount your T-14 to a new aluminum pole instead of the standard wood pole.
